This is an East Providence institution, so many come here to celebrate weddings and other family events. Even with an event going on, the main dining room is still packed with regulars. The outdoor seating is covered and your surround by plants, fountain, and stone. I don't come here for the ambiance, The food is the star. DONT miss the shrimp Mozambique! Shrimp cooked in garlic, spices and wine... grab the bread, yeah use your hands... and mop this sauce up! For entrees you have more choices than other Portuguese restaurants. I love the Portuguese Steak, served with an egg and garlic wine gravy. The Portuguese fries are large sliced fried "chips" just simply excellent. This is one Portuguese Restaurant that stands the test of time! Enjoy!

Ok where do I start..... first I did not like the entrance to the building, I had my entire family with me and you have to walk by the bar full of people drinking with your kids. Then I asked if they could seperate the check and they could not. This is a portuguese restaurant and they had no portuguese rolls and served us slices of bread that tasted 2 days old. It is a nice place inside but they need a better chef as the food was just ok. The portuguese soup was not up to par and my plate lacked flavor and needed more substance. Overall I was very disappointed that I made this trip and wasted my time here when I could have went a few blocks away to the Madeira restaurant or O'Dinis which serves quality portuguese food.

This is a hit or miss kind of place. I've been here several times to fully assess whether I like it or not. The service is questionable at times, but I have had some good days. The menu has some really tasty items, authentically Portuguese, and reasonably priced. Some not so reasonably. I like the shrimp mozambique pizza a lot, but it's not always consistent every time I order it. It's not the cleanest place by any means, but acceptable. It's basically just "ok" -- I won't choose to eat here, but won't put up a fight if a group wishes to visit. In an area with lots of Portuguese restaurants, I'd probably pass on the Riviera.

Good, fresh food. Everything is well done with a lot of flavor. Portuguese restaurant. Staff is a little weird.

What can I say? Another great authentic Portuguese restaurant in East Providence with a great atmosphere, great food and great service, with good prices. I love the glassed in dining room with the waterfall. Food is excellent especially the paella for two, it comes with a lobster. Great selection of wines.

After another fabulous visit they deserved the extra star. They still gave us excellent food and service , even though the place was packed to the brim and was hosting three different parties! The take-out trays are inexpensive for the quantity you get, and are full of flavor. Parties that we have had their have always been full of ease and fun, because the staff tries their hardest to make your party run smoothly and a great time. Love the atmosphere , service and food. This place just gives an all around excellent experience for me and will always be returning.

First time here was for a private event. The food was excellent, so I went back to have dinner a few months later. I was not disappointed. The food was great.

Unfortunately you can't give a 0 stars review. We are recent transplants to the area and the day we bought our house we decided to celebrate at a local restaurant. We checked our some yelp reviews and whole it was not our first choice, due to timing we went to Riviera. I love Portuguese food and was hoping for some salt cod, my, boyfriend wanted a good steak. The restaurant itself is a little dingy, and it is a bit unappealing to walk into the bar area right away. However we were sat promptly and we got some sangria while we perused the menu. Service was a little slow but it was off from normal lunch hours so we figured they were slow until dinner. Sangria was decent and they brought us some fresh bread. We ordered, no salt CID left meant stuffed scrod for me and steak with mushrooms for my guy. Again it was a long wait, and to me that can be a good sign...like things are being prepped fresh. The food was not very hot when it arrived, and the mushrooms on my boyfriends steak were in a thick sauce rather than just sautéed as describe. The food was rather bland, but ok. We shared bites and I found the "chips" good, we liked the fish but nothing was great. Flash forward to about 30-45 minutes later. My boyfriend is in the car in horrible, but wrenching pain to the point of almost crying. We get to the hotel we booked for the night and he starts vomiting, practically sleeping in the bathroom. I had what I thought was just gas at first but the pain worsened but I was still not sure if my indigestion, nausea, and pain due to his severe episodes (sympathy sickness) or because I was sick too. Unfortunately it was take latter, and I spent much time in the bathroom the next day. Luckily we had movers so we could just be ill while they moved us, unfortunately for the movers they had to deal with dueling sounds of our sickness. Needless to say, this place is off our list of local eats. No thank you.

Went to Riviera's for Mother's Day with my four sisters and my mom and we were enjoying a nice dinner when a roach walks up the wall. Disgusting will never go back Restaurant did not apologize and was giving excuses that it came with the linen. That they never seen one before when I know that all restaurants have to fumigate every 2 weeks to control roaches. Should just apologize and that's it

Great food, good people, comfortable atmosphere. The shrimp Mozambique is absolutely phenomenal. I had a bass special with shrimp, scallops and potatoes served in a clay baking dish. It was about $20, but could easily have cost $30 or more in a big city. The sauce was good, seafood was fresh and the presentation was professional. I went there with a friend on a recommendation for good Portuguese food in an area with plenty of good Portuguese food. I wasn't disappointed. Definitely a five star experience.

I didn't even want to rate this restaurant with any stars but I had to choose the lowest option to even begin to write this. The appetizers were good after the 35 minutes we had to wait for them. After the long wait for those we did tell the waitress we had to go somewhere shortly and she provided us with an excuse about the kitchen being backed up. Another 20 minutes later we asked about dinner again and she said the kitchen was short staffed with a lot of take out orders coming in and our food would be out in 5 minutes. 10 minutes later we asked for the check and our food to be boxed. We received the check promptly but it took another 10 minutes to receive our boxed food so we could leave and rush to our performance in the snow. Arriving at 415 you'd expect to have your dinner before 540. I will never be returning nor would I ever recommend it. Go to O'Dinis if you want amazing Portuguese food accompanied with great service.

The bitoque (Portuguese steak) was good, but not as good as the last time we ordered it! I also ordered fried calamari and it was cold and was like they fried it twice. It was dark brown almost burnt! The customer service was horrible! The man at the door was extremely rude! If I wasn't pregnant and already starving I would've walked out!!! Needless to say I will never go or take out from here again!

Absolutely the best place in East Providence for some amazing Portuguese food and quite possibly the best in most of the surrounding cities as well.

Solid menu, comfortable atmosphere and authentic feel but I thought the food was just OK. I had the Baked Seafood Platter. It was a little too greasy for my taste. The salad was very good and the sides (mashed potatoes and green beans) were OK. The worst part of the evening was the surprise we got at the end when I found out my iced tea refills were not free. My three small glasses cost us $6+. Overall I thought the prices exceeded the quality of the food.

I feel a bit bad for saying I'm not a huge fan of the restaurant itself, but it's better if you sit at the bar. The food is really delicious though and pricing is very fair. The octopus special at the weekends is one of the best things I've eaten in providence!

The Riviera was just "OK" for me. The restaurant decor is dated, the waiters are a bit grumpy, and the quality of the steak that they used for my entree was...well...just "OK". The Sangria was very good and the rice that came with my Bitoque was phenomenal, but those were the only highlights for me. With all of the Portuguese restaurants in RI, I doubt that I will ever give his one a second try.

I love portuguese food. It takes me back to my childhood and my grandmother making delicious shrimp mozambique, or octopus stew or portuguese house steak with butter and a fried egg and delicious fresh made fries. mmmmm Rivieira is pretty close to grandma's cooking. I have had pretty much everything on the menu, and it is all great!

The Riviera has a nice ambience and serves well to a romantic dinner. The bar serves as a good place to sit down and have a causal chat with a friend or loved one. Recommend to anyone.

Excellent food in a cozy atmosphere. My boyfriend and I ordered two of the seafood dishes and both took home leftovers! Reasonable prices (I felt the portions fit the size!), great service. I will definitely be going back!

Honestly the worst Portuguese restaurant, the waiters have the worst attitude. The food always tastes different, the soda is always flat. Some food is false advertised. Not my cup of tea.

We had a great event here and everyone enjoyed the food, we were not rushed, the service was great. Could not ask for more, we continue to go to dinner here occassionally and the food is always good. I knoq you could find more expensive/fancy Portuguese restaurants but the food is really good and their service standards are high. If you enjoy Portuguese food you will enjoy this place especially the steak and stuffed chicken dishes.

Great atmosphere and even better wait staff! Great service. Desserts are nice. The food was ok, big portions, but just average fare. Would probably not go back for food. They did have a band starting up, which would have been nice, but had to leave.

Still a 3 star restaurant. I called a month ago to place a reservation for today, at 2pm, for 20 people. I called 2 days ago to confirm that I could drop off a cake at 11 for my 2pm reservation for 20. Dropped off the cake this morning citing our 2pm reservation for 20. Show up a bit before 2pm and there is NO RESERVATION. WTF??? We all awkwardly stood around the bar while they set us up.. a table for 18. Really??? I told 2 different people AND our waitress that we did not have enough seats and nobody did a damn thing about it. We finally took a little nearby table (that was higher and I think might have been meant to hold the cake from the party next to us) and stole random chairs from around the room to accommodate our guests ourselves. The food was good, everyone enjoyed their meals which is most important. Our waitress was friendly but not very attentive, we had to flag her down for refills and pretty much everything else, like skipping people while taking our orders. We will probably not be returning, we can get good Portuguese food with better service elsewhere.

I have been to this place three times now and it is awesome! I live in New York and every time I come to Rhode Island I come here. Sandy is an awesome server the meal and service were outstanding today as always.

Great for all size groups Fantastic steak sandwiches Nice solarium I've held an event at the Riviera for the past three years, and as far as group setups and catering goes, they're great. It's a family run business, and they're incredibly accommodating with helping me get exactly what I want out of my event. They'll work to keep the cost within my range, and they always throw in a little something extra, like an appetizer plate or fruit plate as a thanks for the repeat business. The catered meals are decent, but the Riviera is still a good place to head out for a working lunch or dinner. The personal menu favorite is the steak sandwich. It's tender but not stringy, and served with red peppers it's one of the best in EP. There is a ton of seating, and the front sun room is always a favorite. It's the perfect place to get your dose of greenery in the middle of winter. It is kind of strange when you walk into the place and are suddenly standing in the bar, but for me, the steak sandwich and solarium are worth the awkward moment.

I had my 50th birthday get together with my family and close friends, they gave me sun room and it was fantastic!!!!!! The food was great we had the buffet and everything was delicious. The service was great and they really did make the night a special night. The owners even send me a thank you card for the business. All my guest had a grat time celebrating this special day for me. Thank you Riviera.

Nice sun room for afternoon dining... and convenient location. Not usually top of mind for Portuguese restaurants. I give it 3 stars but have experienced better.
